Since childhood, I've had a fascination with honey bees. I wasn't a fan of their stingers, but I was obsessed with their hives. I found it incredible how vital, well-organized and unique these little pollinators are.
Back in 2011, I found it all too common to pick up a product that fed our senses, but was made of unregulated, unrecognizable and potentially toxic chemical ingredients. In fact, most of these chemical ingredients were believed to contribute to a phenomenon known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), which has dropped the population of our bees by over a third.
I bet you're asking why this was so important. Well, pollination is a necessity for agricultural survival - about three-quarters of all food crops rely on bees. Simply put, it's a big deal.
To do my part, I picked up a block of beeswax from a local farm and began experimenting in my home kitchen with nothing more than a pot, spoon and a few natural oils. I perfected a beeswax-based lip balm and spent my time going door-to-door, raising awareness about a bee with a cause.
A few years later, at the age of 26, I suffered a rare disorder that took over me - my own body was crippling. I needed full time assistance from this point on with a tediously slow and almost full recovery.
In search for answers, I realized my research and advocacy for corporate social responsibility went beyond the beehive. It included us. It included me.
Needless to say, I thought it was about time we had a brand that thought differently by never compromising ingredient safety for design, profit, simplicity or demographic trends.
So in my journey through recovery, I began handcrafting small batches of sustainable personal care products from raw, unrefined and organic ingredients. Before you know it, BEECAUSE was born.
Today our brand has reached nationwide markets including Anthropologie, Jet.com, BoxLunch, Amazon and Thrive Market, to name a few.
I welcome you to discover a life with No Bee.S.
